The lovely team at bakerdays sent me one of their letterbox cakes for my birthday on Thursday. (I've gotta say, I've turned 23 and I am loving it... Isn't it funny how the start of a 'new' year can make you feel revitalised and re-motivated?!)
Anyway, I am just so in love with this concept. Although the letterbox cakes are small, measuring 5" in diameter, they're still personalisable and who doesn't love coming home to a cake delivered straight through your door?
The first thing I've got to mention is how great the packaging is. The box is sturdy and the cake is kept inside a tin, with small holes for ventilation, which I'll definitely reuse to keep the loose candles and cake toppers that are rolling around 'that drawer' in my kitchen. (Y'know, the drawer with all the random stuff that doesn't have a place? Please say it's not just my house that has this?!)
I opted for the 'Let's Eat' Cake with a vanilla sponge, and of course added my name to it!
I'm not usually a big fan of cakes with icing and was worried that the cake would be dry but it was actually lovely. The icing was really soft and had a slightly sticky underside, which reminded me of Marshmallow fluff and made the cake really tasty.
My cake also came with some balloons, candles, a card and a party blower. I was a little disappointed the blower didn't make a noise but that's probably great for everyone with kids who'd be listening to it non-stop for the next two hours!
I also loved the little card to say who the cake was 'packed with care' by - so here's a big shout out to Alastair for doing such a great job!
All in all...
The concept is great. The cake tasted great. The ease of ordering and customer service was great. I think this is the perfect gift to send in the post - especially for someone who may live on their own, or work during the days. I'd definitely recommend trying bakerdays - and may have to try one of their larger cakes in the future!
