Ali's festive film drinks guide

Ah, Christmas. The time for eating cheese, drinking wine and watching films - at least, it is in my house! So when Panasonic told me all about their Panasonic HDR 4K TVs, and asked me to help share the festive spirit, I was happy to help! (I was a little disappointed that I wasn't receiving one of these tvs - as they look amazing and I'd love to test out their cinema display, but I’ll definitely be adding it to my Christmas list!)

There's so many posts out there about the best Christmas films and I'm sure there's some about what to drink over Christmas but I'm going to combine the two. I've carefully paired each film with the perfect drink!

'The Holiday': Baileys Orange Hot Chocolate, topped with marshmallows and whipped cream.

Sweet factor: 7/10
Need for alcohol: 3/10

This is my favourite Christmas film and, in my opinion, one of the sweetest. The peak moment for your hot chocolate with marshmallows is during the "Mr Napkin Head" scene (where they're drinking hot chocolate too!). Baileys is optional, but does help make you feel less sad about the lack of Jude Law in your life. I recommend the 'Orange Truffle' flavour for a bit of a twist!

'Love Actually': A very large glass of red wine.. In fact, you may need the whole bottle.

Sweet factor: 2/10
Need for alcohol: 9/10

Firstly, raise your glass in memory of Alan Rickman. Secondly, spend the whole film SEETHING with anger at how badly his character treats the lovely Emma Thompson. I recommend getting merry with the wine during this film, how else will you cope with the many 'will they - won't they' relationships?!

Grinch gin and cucumber

'Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas': Gin, Tonic and Cucumber.

Sweet factor: 1/10
Need for alcohol: 6/10

Something strong is needed when you start relating to the Grinch more than the citizens of Whoville. This is a litte bit bitter and a little bit green - need I say any more?

'Die Hard': It's a good day to... Drink beer?

Sweet factor: 1/10
Need for alcohol: 7/10

Now, there's some dispute as to whether Die Hard is a Christmas film, but it's set on Christmas Eve and it's a classic so that's good enough for me. Put on a white vest, get yourself a case of beer, maybe order a curry... Prepare for 2 hours of '80s Bruce Willis shooting people. Merry Christmas.

'Elf': Christmas Freakshake

Sweet factor: 10/10
Need for alcohol: 0/10

In times of trouble, I always ask myself... WWBD? What would Buddy do? And I think we all know that Buddy the Elf would have to drink: THE SUGARIEST THING POSSIBLE! Blend milk and ice-cream, top with something naughty and sprinkle on any leftover Christmas sweets.

I hope you've enjoyed my drinks and Christmas films pairings! Let me know in the comments what you'll be trying or if you have any other film and drinks combos!
